Back to School

I’ve got new adventures on the horizon! After much deliberation, worry, trepidation, doubt, and ultimately excitement, I quit my full-time job at the day program a little over three weeks ago so I can go back to school!
I’m not doing anything too radical, just taking some classes at my local community college (which is literally just down the street) in the hopes of learning some new skills and doing a bit of career exploration. I’ve already signed up for a couple of summer classes beginning next month (serger sewing and digital photography). I’m working back at my old job at a restaurant and doing some sewing work for a friend with a busy handmade shop to pay my bills in the meantime.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has long agonized over which path to take and what I really want to “do with my life.” After high school, college, work, the Peace Corps, and more work, and lots of thought, research, and changing my mind over and over again, I realized over the last few years that what I would really like to do is to work for myself doing something creative.  I’m going to take classes in sewing/fashion, graphic and web design, and maybe even business, with the goal of finding a way to support myself doing something that I (at least mostly) enjoy. Wish me luck!

How about you? Was there a time you decided to make a change? How did it turn out?
I’d love to hear your story!
