My “Fall for Cotton” Plan/Inspiration

Have you all heard of the Fall for Cotton Sewalong? When I saw the announcement on Lucky Lucille I knew I had to try and join in on the fun. I mean, vintage and cotton? I’m in! Anyway,  I think probably 90% of the fabric I sew is already cotton (or at least partly cotton) so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to find something to make. Now that I’m finally done with the Super Online Sewing Match, I can get down to business!

I decided to make this dress, Vintage Vogue 8789. I bought this gorgeous striped Kaffe Fassett fabric at a (semi) local fabric shop, Roxanne’s in Carpinteria, CA. (You can find the fabric online here if you’re interested).

Once again, I was inspired by a gorgeous vintage dress from Dear Golden Vintage! I fell in love with this stripey dress the moment I saw it. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), it wasn’t my size, or I would have been extremely tempted to buy it (it’s now long gone)! But this way, I get to make my own version.

I love the way the dress plays with the directionality of the stripes by creating chevrons on the bodice and the pockets. I’m definitely going to try to make my own chevron striped pockets on my version.

I’m hoping I can get a good start on my dress this weekend. We have until September 30th so I’d better get on it!

Is anyone else doing Fall for Cotton?
