Sewing Project: 1960’s Eeyore Doll (McCall’s 8087)

Hey everyone! It has once again been a long time since I last posted. I just wanted to share the second doll I made with McCall’s 8087. This is a vintage pattern from the 1960s of the Winnie the Pooh characters and this doll is the second one I’ve made from this pattern for my Mother-in-law who is a huge fan of all things Winnie the Pooh.

I wanted to use a fabric that was a little more substantial for this project than the cotton that was suggested, so I used a couple of wools instead. The darker grey for the top is a suiting blend and the lighter grey is a melton wool blend. I managed to find both at Joann Fabrics. I went ahead and bought a few extra yards of the light grey for a future project just because I liked the feel of it so much. Maybe a circle skirt perhaps?

The pattern came together really nicely and was pretty straightforward. I think the trickiest part to sew was the top of the head just since there are so many layers where the ears and the mane meet. The mane and tail are just black felt that you snip it into strips after you’ve sewn it in. The face is also just pieces of felt which I attached with some fabric glue, though I suppose you could sew them on with a blanket stitch as well if you wanted. You have to sew and stuff it before you can really position them correctly on the face.

The tail buttons on, just like the real Eeyore! It’s a cute touch. I used a little scrap of red cotton for the bow.

Since this was Christmas gift and I wanted to make it a little more special, I embroidered the bottom with our names and the date.

Thanks for checking out my project and Happy sewing!
