After work last week I decided to take a little walk down the street to check out one of the coolest natural phenomena that our area has to offer. Every year, thousands of Monarch butterflies congregate in a grove of Eucalyptus trees right off of CA Highway 1 in Pismo Beach in the Monarch Butterfly Grove from November to February. Here are some snapshots I took:
There are lots of butterfly-attracting plants planted around the grove.
It’s hard to spot the butterflies at first- at first they look like big brown clumps up in the trees.
Then you notice that they’re lots of orange and black butterflies!
It’s a good idea to bring along some binoculars or a zoom lens for your camera.
It’s a bit hard to tell in this photo, but when you look up, you can see lots of butterflies flitting around in the air.
Thanks for reading! Have any of you been to the Pismo Butterfly Grove?
