Thrifty Thursday Vol. 56: A Train Case, Sheets, and Two Cats

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s edition of Thrifty Thursday, where I share my weekly thrift store/swap meet/estate sale finds.
We didn’t do a whole lot of thrift shopping this week but we did manage to get to a few estate sales on Saturday. We went farther than usual- all the way down to Lompoc. I saw an amazing 1960s mirror in the ad for a particular sale and we went down to see if it was still there (the sale started on Friday). It wasn’t, unfortunately, but I managed to snag this awesome train case as a consolation prize:
We headed back to another sale in town, where I got this Pyrex Butterfly bowl for 50 cents!
And this cake carrier for a couple of bucks:
We went to yet another sale in Nipomo, where I snagged these vintage sheets, and had to restrain myself from buying a mid-century hutch (which was a good price, but not something we have room for at the moment). I’m still slightly bummed, but I know an even better one will come along one of these days!
Now, for a couple of finds from last week that I never got around to posting:
This adorable Geisha girl lamp…
…and these two wooden cats:
Phillip and I decided this weekend to take a little thrifting break. Our goal is to stay completely away from thrift stores and estate sales for the rest of the month, and then, when we do go again, only buy the absolutely most amazingly awesome stuff. No more so-so stuff, or things we buy just because it’s really cheap! (I realize I have resolved something like this several times before with mixed success- and fellow thrifters feel my pain?). Seriously, we have WAY.TOO.MUCH. CRAP! Our garage is full of great stuff that we’ve never even listed or taken into the space because we keep finding more. Anyway, we’ve both seen reason this week and we haven’t set foot in a thrift store since Saturday!
In other news, I realized that I never posted an official announcement of how the Super Online Sewing Match turned out! (Nearly two weeks ago- sorry everyone!) I posted something on my Facebook page but somehow never got around to announcing it here. Anyway, I didn’t win the grand prize, that honor went to Kelli, who completely deserved it! I’m only slightly bummed, and I’m mostly just happy it’s done so I can have my free time to work on some other projects. (I’m working on my Fall for Cotton dress right now and I’ve also got a guest tutorial in the works!). Thanks to everyone who followed me throughout the contest and left such nice comments. I really appreciate each and every one of you!
Did anyone else go thrifting this week? What did you find?

I’ll be linking up at Apron Thrift Girl, A Living Space, Sir Thrift A Lot, and Joyful Treasure Hunting. Head on over and check out all of the finds for this week!
